Our Place, Your Space

It's February--the month of love, so why not talk a little bit about why I love the library--and you should too....

The things I love about the library:

1). The books
2). The comfy setting
3). The conversations
4). The technology
5).  Libraries are my "place."

What does it mean to say "libraries are my place?" Really, it means that when I visit the library I am at ease. I am comfortable. I can search for books that suit me for that day. I can learn about what peaks my interest for the moment. I can talk about oddities, movies, music, and food. Or, I can be quiet, study, read, or just hang out.

My hope is that you feel comfortable in our library too. I hope it's a place where you can ask about books--even the strange or odd ones. Or, you can tell me about that cool movie that you saw on Netflix over the weekend. Or, if you don't feel like talking, that's fine too. Just come in (with a teacher pass, of course😄), and find your space how you see fit.

It's a great place to find research, learn new skills, and study for that big test coming up. You really don't have to love reading to come visit.  We have cool Makerspace stuff, like PlusPlus blocks (everyone loves them), checkers, cards, and puzzles. We also have contests with prizes that promote all kinds of talents and hobbies.

AND, we have a pink hand chair. Yes, a pink hand chair.

So come by when you can, and visit, read, or study. Our Place, is Your Space too.

Teen Reading: Finding Your Way Back to Adventure

Are you a teen that used to read, but over time, have drifted away from it? As a high school librarian, I hear it a lot. Many of my readers express that they used to read "all the time," but due to homework, work, and social events, their moments of reading for pleasure are far and few between. In fact, "In recent years, less than 20 percent of U.S. teens report reading a book for pleasure" ("Teens Reading"). It is notable that many teens wish to read, but are not sure how to fit in to their schedule, or where to start to jump start the routine again. If that is the case, here are few tips that may help you find your way back to the benefits of reading for fun. 1). Think back to the books you enjoyed as a child. What type of books lured you in? Action adventure? Comics? Fact books? Let your librarian know you previous favorites, and we can start from there. You can also use GoodReads or Amazon--just type in the book you loved and new recommendation

Student Guest Post: Lost in the Library

Books have the ability to take us to a different place. With enough imagination your mind can take you anywhere. We are lucky to have such a great place to be able to read and get lost in a book. Everyone has the ability to get lost, you just have to find the right book. Some books that I enjoyed most: Until Friday Night : Series that tells about the love story between two unthinkable lovers. A football player and a normal girl find themselves facing the hardest moments of their life together. Somehow they manage to find peace in their crazy worlds together. Book two and book three follow the love stories of their friends who also struggle to find their true loves. The Naturals : Also a series of four books about teenagers who have insane abilities. They are natural profilers who look at crime suspect’s emotions, background, crime scenes, and even a human lie detector. The four books follow their crazy lives that are far from normal. One of Us Is Lying :
